Eventility Becomes Joinin.com

cropped-coverpic.pngWe’ve changed! We’re now joinin.com and have some great new features, plus all the existing, fantastic free organizational tools you’ve come to expect.

What is joinin?

Joinin.com is a social network that helps people make the most of their free time with the things they love doing.

Our goal is to bring people together in the real world – To help everyone spend more time doing the things they’re interested in, with like-minded others!

You can use joinin to:

  • Joinin with, or become the founder member of a joinin community of something you love
  • Chat with people with shared interests
  • Meet people nearby with shared interests (mobile app only)
  • Discover things to do
  • Add events, clubs/groups or places so other people find them

joinin for organizers

If you organize people you’re in luck – so does, Robin, our founder, and for the last 5 years he’s thought about nothing apart from how to help you organize others.

  • Organize events, groups, clubs and customers
  • Chat and share privately in your own feed on the web or mobile
  • Send emails and texts and see who opens them
  • Sell tickets and collect payments
  • If it’s public – we really help you promote it! From connections to social networks, plugins and links to data partners – and we’re just getting started!
  • You can even get a free website and choose from a range of templates
  • Oh, and it’s free* to use! (see How We Make Money below)

Our mission

Last year the founder of the web, Sir Tim Berners-Lee said “People still mainly talk to their neighbours, or those with the same religion or culture. Can we develop systems on the web which will actually help solve that problem? I think the web can do more.”

We agree, and we launched Joinin.com to bring people together in the real world. We do this by helping everyone with a shared interest – Join, Chat, Meet, Do. And by giving organizers free tools to help them organize the things that we all love doing!

Simple really.

BTW – do you know that people who organize are mainly volunteers doing it for the love of it? We want to help them find you and you find them!

Our ethics

All of us at joinin believe that everyone’s personal information is important and private and should be treated that way. That’s why we’ve spent years working out the best way to respect your information and deliver a service that you can use freely and securely.

  1. You can’t be found on joinin – we don’t have a ‘people’ search and we don’t let search engines index you
  2. You can create a private club/group or event that’s invite only and no-one else can find it
  3. We never sell your data to third parties

Changes to Eventility.com and Why They Benefit You – Part 2

To coincide with the service update that we carried out a few weeks ago, we recently posted the first part of our guide to the changes that have been made and how they can benefit you. Part one detailed member management, subscriptions and enhanced repeating events. In this second instalment, we cover free texting and introduce the newest member of our team.

Free Texting

Improvements – To celebrate our latest release, we are giving away Bronze Pack bundles of 100 SMS credits to Eventility users. Simply login to your account and head over to My Account/Extras to start benefiting from this fantastic offer.

Benefits – With the average person checking their mobile phone up to 150 times a day, texting has become a fantastic way to reach audiences. Whether you’re organising an event or running a club, group or society, keeping in touch with members via SMS really couldn’t be easier with Eventility.

If you are not familiar with using this service, there is plenty of information on the website that will guide you through the process. Here you can learn how our SMS service works and find out more about the bundles we offer.

New Account Manager

Improvements – As the number of people using the website expands, so does Eventility.com. We pride ourselves on providing the best possible experience and customer service to our users and as a result we are delighted to welcome our newest recruit, Adam Harris who is joining our rapidly expanding team as an Account Manager.

Benefits – With more people on board here at the Eventility headquarters, it enables us to offer a better quality service to our customers. With so many clever and creative individuals working with us, it also means that the products and services we offer you will continue to go from strength to strength. Adam has been brought in to show our clients exactly what our software can do for them and off course to make sure that they’re extremely happy with our product offerings.

We sincerely hope that you enjoy the changes that have been made to Eventility.com. We would love to know what you think so feel free to contact us via the website or if you prefer, why not get in touch via Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn?

Changes to Eventility.com and why they benefit you

EventilityAs most of you will already know, at Eventility we’re committed to making your experience on our website the best we possibly can and are regularly making changes and improvements.  At the beginning of the month we sent out a service update, but for those of you who missed it or want to know more, here is the first installment of a two-part guide to the changes and how they can benefit you, your group, club, chapter or event.

Member Management

Improvements – when you add contacts to your club/group/community, you can now include their gender, date of birth, postcode and any other labels or notes that you wish to add.

Benefits – using this function enables you to categorise and separate your lists for more targeted communication. For example, if you are running a specific event in Cambridge and only want to invite those on your list who are local, you can now do so quickly and easily by sorting your contacts by postcode.

Adding notes is particularly helpful when it comes to remembering who you have spoken to at previous events, keeping track of who has requested to receive information about future events and any other details that you think may be helpful when it comes to running your club, group or community.

Subscriptions

Improvements – we have updated our member subscriptions service to include:

  • A simple four step set up (PayPal integrated)
  • The choice between ‘organiser view’ and ‘live view’
  • The ability to notify members individually or by lists
  • Functionality that allows you to search for members when adding offline payments
  • Tools to build revenue reports for the dates you have chosen

Benefits – using the new improved subscriptions feature means that it’s now much easier and faster to set up to collect your subscription fees. You can categorise and list members by different subscription type and it’s easy to add offline payments as well. Plus you get tools to pull your revenue reports.

Enhanced Repeating Events

Improvements – we have completely re-worked how our members can set up and manage events that are repeated/happen more than once. The new, state-of-the art system enables you to use a simple and powerful repetition scheduler that includes end dates, uses a calendar view to navigate and edit exceptions and even change ‘place’ for individual occurrences.

Benefits – with a new, fully flexible system, users can now set up and manage repeated events much more quickly, easily and efficiently. For example, if you run a sports group at the same time and place on a set day every week, rather than setting this up manually, you can use the repetition scheduler to do it for you. If there is the odd exception such as bank holidays and Christmas, the calendar view enables you to mark these exemptions so that events will not show up for these dates. You can even set an end date if you only want to set up meetings for a certain period of time.

Believe it or not, there have been even more improvements to Eventility.com in our latest service update, so stay tuned for part two next week. In the meantime, why not go and check out some of the features we have already mentioned!

Eventility Supercharges BJJAGB – Case Study

bjjagb-large_755About the BJJAGB

The British Ju-Jitsu Association GB National Governing Body (BJJAGB) has been offering instruction and training in Ju-Jitsu since 1960. Located in Accrington, Lancashire, the British Ju-Jitsu Association National Governing Body has produced champions in life as well as in the martial arts.

The British Ju-Jitsu Association was originally founded in 1956 by Soke James Blundell and was later re-constituted in 1988. It included other affiliated Ju-Jitsu associations from around Great Britain. Together, these clubs and associations approached the British Sports Council (now the UK Sports Council) to establish a single Governing Body for the Martial Art of Ju-Jitsu in this country and as a result, since 1993, the BJJA has become the British Ju-Jitsu Association Governing Body.

The BJJAGB oversees all aspects of Ju-Jitsu in Great Britain:

  • Establishing codes of conduct
  • Standard practises
  • Competition formats and rules
  • Arranging group insurance policies for clubs
  • Certification of teachers and competition referees
  • Registration of new clubs

The BJJAGB Experience Before Using Eventility

The main points of frustration that the BJJAGB faced were:

  1. Out of date club listings on the website
  2. Limited data on what was happening at club level
  3. No online tools for affiliated clubs
  4. Having to use multiple tools
  5. Difficulty pulling together accurate national diary information to put on their website.
  6. No easy way to sell tickets to national events
  7. No single view for participation data across affiliated clubs

How Has Eventility Specifically Addressed Those Problems?

  • Eventility Engage solves the problems of data and membership management for associations with multiple connected clubs, groups, events and facilities.
  • Eventility gives a platform for their connected clubs and groups to organise and promote their activities.
  • Eventility provides a website, mobile apps, text and email services, range of plug-ins and website templates to organise and promote their activities and an API for the associations to manage their data.

The BJJAGB Experience Using Eventility

Eventility presented the Engage Solution to the BJJAGB National Congress in October 2012 and it was enthusiastically received with clubs signing up to use it there and then.

At the time, Eventility founder, Robin Brattel said, “We’re delighted that The British Ju-Jitsu Association National Governing Body have chosen to work in partnership with Eventility.  With our Engage products powering their website they will be able to increase the exposure of all the fantastic Ju-Jitsu clubs and events being run around the country, helping to encourage more people to participate.”

The BJJAGB are using the following Eventility products:

  • Communications Hub inc. email tracking and SMS
  • Events Hub
  • Selling tickets
  • Collecting subscriptions/dues

What Are The Top Features the BJJAGB Love About Eventility?

  1. The BJJAGB website now has the Eventility Engage plug-in which means that they have accurate contact information available
  2. Ensures that the BJJAGB website is updated in real-time with club details, training and event listings
  3. The information is also available on the Eventility website for prospective members to find
  4. Provides BJJAGB Ju-Jitsu club organisers with free tools to simplify the organisation and promotion of their clubs
  5. Helps BJJAGB understand and report on participation in Ju-Jitsu and how it is increasing across their membership

BJJAGB Map

BJJAGB Results With Eventility

  • Originally 97 clubs were listed on the BJJAGB website, that has now grown to 217 via Eventility Engage from partner aggregation and additional clubs
  • 43% of originally listed clubs are now claimed with full details updated
  • 724 club level events not previously listed are now listed
  • National Event ticket sales are now run via Eventility
  • Tracked email communications showing engagement with open and click rates
  • More awareness for BJJAGB

The BJJAGB Recommends Eventility

“The partnership with Eventility is fantastic for the BJJA.  Not only does it provide our clubs with an amazing free tool to help manage their clubs, events and members, but the Engage solution powering our website means we’ll always have the latest data for our members clubs and statistics to show participation across our sport.”

Simple Steps to Start a Successful Club

Many people have great ideas when it comes to setting up clubs but put off doing it because they fear that it will be too time consuming or even worse, that nobody will be interested in it. Whether you want to start a book club, sports club, parent’s group or lunch club, there are a few simple steps you can take to ensure that the process is quick, easy and best of all, successful.

Decide What Kind of Club You Want

Your club should have a set topic because if people know what it’s all about, you will naturally start to attract a gathering amongst those who have an interest in the subject. For example, if you have heard people in your neighbourhood saying they want to get fit but keep putting it off, a running club or aerobics club might be of interest to them because they will be able to incorporate exercise with a social activity. Also naming your club with a name that easily describes what it is will make it easier for people to find it with search engine optimisation.

When and Where Will Your Club Meet?

Having a set time, day and place that you meet eliminates confusion and ensures that people can schedule it in their diaries. If meetings times change all the time, you run the risk of a low turn out and people are likely to stop making an effort. However, if everyone knows that you meet at 6:00 pm on a Wednesday evening, they can make plans to ensure they are there.

Start Recruiting Members

Presumably, you want to start up a club because you know a few people who have an interest in doing so. Start by recruiting those who have already expressed a desire to join and ask them if they have any friends or colleagues who may want to join as well. Try to keep your club manageable though, too many members can become difficult to organise and lead to frustration.

Assign Responsibility to Members

If your club really gets going it can be difficult for just one member to manage everything. Assigning each member a task makes them feel wanted and also takes the pressure off the group leader. Typically, clubs are made up of a group leader who is responsible for the overall running of the club, a deputy leader who can step in when the leader can’t make it, a treasurer who handles the finances if applicable, a secretary, a head of events and an advertising team if you wish to promote your club.

Have Meetings

Holding meeting gives everyone the chance to have their say and put forward any ideas they may have. Making it a social event such as going out for dinner is a great way for club members to bond which is likely to increase loyalty as well.

Manage Your Club

Managing your club and staying in touch with members doesn’t have to be difficult. In fact, with Eventility, you can do everything you need to do in one place. Once you have set up your club on the website, you can post updates that automatically go out to all your members, share photos, send auto-reminders and even promote yourself on social networking sites all for free. You can also make other members managers on your Eventility club so you can share the organisation. For more information about setting up a club with Eventility, please feel free to visit the website tour.

The Benefits of Exercise

It might seem unlikely at the moment but believe it or not, summer is just around the corner. Needless to say, chances are that now is the time that a lot of us are starting to think about getting fit, toning up and losing a few of those winter pounds.

As well as helping you to look good, the benefits of exercise are plentiful and can have more of an impact on your life that you could ever imagine. So whether you’re a gym bunny, football fanatic or prefer throwing a frisbee around the park, here are some very good reasons why you should get started sooner rather than later.

Reduce Illnesses

Whatever your age, there is strong scientific research that being physically active can help you to lead a healthier and even happier life.  According to the NHS, regular exercise can reduce the risk of major illnesses such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer by up to 50%. Incredibly, it can also lower the risk of early death by up to 30%.

General Wellbeing

Research shows that physical activity can also boost self-esteem, mood, sleep quality and energy levels. It also reduces the risk of stress, depression, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease so what are you waiting for? Whether it’s a session at the gym, taking the dog for a walk or ditching the car for a bicycle, the benefits of exercise can be felt immediately.

Weight Control

We all know that when you engage in physical activity, you burn calories. The more intense the activity, the more calories you burn which makes exercise a fantastic way to prevent weight gain and maintain weight loss. Even if you can’t find the time to do an actual workout, becoming more active throughout the day can have a massive impact. Taking the stairs instead of the lift, getting off the tube a stop earlier and walking the rest of the way, cleaning the house and doing squats during television advert breaks are all great ways to incorporate exercise into your everyday life.

Meet New People

Taking up exercise can be a great way to meet new people. Whether you join an aerobics class at the gym, a football team, tennis club or bowling group, chances are that you are going to meet other like-minded people. With everyone feeling great from the physical activity, moods are going to be uplifted and chances are, new friendships will be formed.

Have Fun

Believe it or not, exercise can be a lot of fun. It gives you a chance to unwind, enjoy the outdoors or simply engage in activities that make you happy. Whilst going home from work and sitting in front of the television all night might seem like the more tempting option, it’s not going to send you to sleep with a smile on your face. However, going to a class or club will release those endorphins, enable you to socialise with others and best of all, leave you feeling ready for what tomorrow may bring.

If you are looking for different ways to exercise, Eventility has thousands of sports clubs, groups and communities using the website. Feel free to search for inspiration and get ready to start feeling great about yourself today.

How Social Media and Online Platforms Can Be Used Effectively in Event Organisation and Promotion

Our Founder, Robin Brattel recently gave a talk at the 30th anniversary International Confex show at ExCel. As an expert in his field, Robin spoke about how social media and online platforms can be used effectively in event organisation and promotion. He discussed how these platforms are currently being used in the industry, compared the different options available and vitally, measured the effectiveness of each.

It is becoming more and more evident that social media is here to stay and can be an incredibly powerful tool when organising an event. In fact, 72% of event organisers now see social media as a very important part of their job and 78% are planning to use it even more than they already do.

Exactly which platforms are those in the industry using however?

  • 84% are using Facebook
  • 61% Twitter
  • 42% YouTube
  • 42% LinkedIn
  • 36% Google+
  • 31% Blogs

If you’re not familiar with the world of social networking you may question why so many people are now using it. The most obvious answer is that with millions of people actively using these sites every day, what better way is there to reach out to people instantly, so easily and often for free?

If you are organising an event for example, social media can help you to collaborate with partners, colleagues, attendees and other people who may be interested but you wouldn’t normally have access to. Having the ability to post information and updates on these sites eliminates the need for so many emails which can be costly, it’s not intrusive because people have chosen to log-in and importantly, it enables them to share your news with others in their network.

With so many companies now realising the benefits of social media, you would struggle to find one that doesn’t have at least one online profile set up. This provides you with many great opportunities to discover suppliers, venues, caterers and any other service you may need. 61% of people now read online reviews before making a purchasing decision. This is hardly surprising when you consider that buyers can now see how companies interact with their customers and what people who have used them thought about the service.

Although social media can become a fundamental tool for event organisers, you have to work at it before you start to reap the benefits. In order to be successful, you need to become part of a community that knows and trusts you before you can activate it. There are generally six stages of online community development that as a brand, if you understand and work at, can help you to guide people from someone who simply follows you to a brand advocate.

Stage One – The Lurker – A lurker is someone who liked or followed your page  – they have taken the first step but that’s it. Chances are that at this stage they’re barely paying attention to what you’re saying and are highly unlikely to join in any conversations.

Stage Two – The Eavesdropper – Once you have said something that has captured the attention of an individual, they are likely to become an eavesdropper. This means that they’re beginning to develop an interest in what you’re saying but they are still unlikely to interact with your content.

Stage Three – The Acquaintance – Now you have said or posted enough things to catch someone’s attention, they are mildly interested in what you have to say. Just like an acquaintance in your neighbourhood, you will start to have some surface level interactions.

Stage Four – The Active Participant – As interactions become deeper and more meaningful, followers will start to comment, ask questions and even initiate conversations rather than simply just ‘liking’ things.

Stage Five – The Brand Loyalist – At this stage, loyalists will have an affinity for you over the competition, even if they are cheaper or more convenient. This is because they are buying more than a product or service – they’re buying into your mission and believe in what you’re doing.

Stage Six – Brand Advocate – Brand advocates are such strong members of your community that they will even start recruiting other members to join. They will encourage others to buy from you, share good customer service stories and willingly answer questions from people.  This is a great stage to be at because people trust recommendations and are more likely to buy from you as a result.

Stay tuned for the second instalment of Robin’s talk which focuses on getting your audience to engage with you. If you can’t wait until next week though, you can view his presentation on Slideshare.
